Early Prenatal Care: A Mom-to-Be's Advantage

October 30 / 2026

prenatal care

Start your pregnancy with quality and safety by receiving prenatal care from a team of experienced obstetricians and gynecologists. They will take care of both the mother and baby throughout the pregnancy, ensuring good health and strength.

When to Start Prenatal Care?

You should begin prenatal care when you suspect pregnancy due to an irregular menstrual cycle, nausea, vomiting, or a positive pregnancy test. This typically occurs between 8 to 12 weeks of pregnancy. However, for a more accurate diagnosis, it is recommended to see a specialized obstetrician for a pregnancy check-up, consultation, and antenatal care. This includes advice on how to take care of both the mother and the baby, as well as planning and preparation for childbirth.

Preparation for Prenatal Care

  • National ID card for registering medical records
  • Medical history, such as chronic diseases, drug allergies, history of pregnancies, miscarriages, genetic diseases, and past surgeries
  • Information about your last menstrual period, calculated from the first day of your last period

What Tests Are Required During Prenatal Care?

  • Blood tests: To check overall blood health, blood type (ABO, RH), immunity to syphilis, hepatitis B virus, and Anti HIV.
  • Thalassemia screening: To detect if you carry or have thalassemia, assess risks, and plan antenatal care and prenatal diagnosis.
  • Urine test: to screen for protein leakage, which can indicate preeclampsia, and check for sugar levels to screen for gestational diabetes.
  • Gestational diabetes screening: Pregnancy increases the risk of diabetes due to certain hormones from the placenta. Poor blood sugar control can affect both the mother and the baby.
  • Vaccinations for the mother: include flu vaccines and vaccines for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis.
  • Ultrasound during pregnancy: During antenatal visits, obstetricians will monitor the baby’s growth monthly. They check for abnormalities, gender, number of babies (in the case of twins), and amniotic fluid levels through 2D ultrasounds. In the second trimester, fetal health is assessed by a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist. In the third trimester, 3D or 4D ultrasounds are performed by the MFM specialist. Ultrasound is safe, radiation-free, and poses no harm to either mother or baby.

Advantages of Prenatal Care

  • Peace of mind with a consultant: You can consult your obstetrician whenever needed during pregnancy, providing reassurance and guidance if any issues arise.
  • Nutritional support: Pregnancy may lead to nutritional deficiencies due to morning sickness, nausea, and vomiting, which can make it difficult to eat. Supplementing with vitamins and minerals ensures that the baby receives adequate nutrition.
  • Screening and prevention of complications: Antenatal care helps in the early detection and treatment of potential complications, such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, miscarriage, and preterm labor, ensuring the safety of both mother and baby.
  • Preparation for motherhood: Receiving advice and information helps mothers get ready for the responsibilities of motherhood.
  • Preparation for childbirth: Antenatal care includes planning for delivery and helping parents prepare to welcome their new baby.
